On my 2010 VW Polo 6r the air conditioning only works on max setting. Did some reading and changed the blower resistor last night, which fixed the problem until driving home this afternoon and the same thing has now happened. Any ideas please as to what is the root issue here?

This can be many things, a lack of air flow over the resistor due to a dirty pollen filter , a cheap copy resistor which is not up to the job , a fan motor with a high resistance which puts extra load on the resistor.
In an ideal world you would replace the fan motor and the resistor together,this rearly happens.
So to answer your question’ what is the root cause’ it’s difficult to say definitely.
