Is there a way that I can permanently disable that damn stop start

I just switch it off each time I start the car. The stop / start switch is right next to the ignition start button so it’s no great inconvenience or hardship to have to press an extra button and it’s become part of my normal starting procedure. It soon becomes second nature to do it too. On the odd occasion I do switch it back on - e.g. if I’m going to be sitting stationary in a queue of traffic that’s not going anywhere such as temporarily traffic lights at roadworks.

I think it is probably possible to code stop / start to be permanently off but you’d need a) an appropriate coding tool (e,g, VCDS or OBD11) and b) the knowledge of how to do it, and I have neither 🙂.

This reverses the setting upon start-up (so starts with s/s off and pressing the button turns it on). You will need to get below the trim to add the cables in.

You can also get it changed via software, my REVO remap changes the button function the same as the above but without extra cabling.

That is worth looking at thanks. As SRGTD has said it is very easy to make a habit of pressing the S/S button om start up, it is very conveniently placed next to the start button after all. I have been blessed with the bluddy S/S for years now in various cars and I just thought it would be a nice change not to have to.

Like SRGTD I’ve gotten into the habit of switching it off on any car. I wouldn’t disable it as sometimes I use it if I’m going to be stopped for a few minutes such as at roadworks. I don’t have the starter button either in my gti.

This was one of the first things I did to my car ,permanently disable the S/S via OBDeleven. It’s just not necessary in my view,if as said I’m in traffic for any significant time I turn it off manually
No more get in, seat belt on, start car, turn off S/S etc

Yes, and OBDeleven can do it.
Or just run the battery a bit flat, the status screen will show as “high power consumption” if the battery is slightly low, and it won’t stop/start.

I just noticed this thread, I posted about this the other day, apparently OBDEleven can only turn it off on cars up 2020, after that it is not possible according to OBDEleven support.

I am looking for a solution for our 2023 MY and haven't found one yet.
