Ambient temperature readout

Hi,
I’ve had my Polo GTI 6C for 18 months now, virtually trouble-free, fabulous car. Today it just developed its first fault of note. The ambient temperature readout on the dash/infotainment is normally pretty accurate however this morning when I started the car it registered 20 deg C , some 10 degrees over the actual temperature. Over the next few minutes it steadily rose to 40, and later on after seesawing around, fluctuating by 10 degrees over a few minutes, it even touched 50! I guess a sensor somewhere has malfunctioned but has anyone else experienced this and is there a simple fix for someone who’s a bit of a car DIY numpty?
Might this fault have some other side effect on the climate control too (yes I’ve got that option)? It might have been my imagination but it seemed to be blowing rather cold, and only putting out warm air when I put the temperature up to HI.
Thanks

The ambient sensor is on the front bumper carrier. It's on the left hand side, behind the lower front grill

Thanks. Found a YT video showing how to remove the lower grill, looks do-able though I’ve struggled before popping off these kinds of things with trim removal tools.

Could a faulty sensor cause any problems more serious than just displaying the ambient temperature wrong? Just need to decide how urgent it is to try fixing it.

yes for example the operation of the AC compressor is dependent on it as well as some of the cooling solutions for the engine.

I just realised that the YT video I found showing lower grill removal was for the 6R, and the 6C GTI’s grill design is totally different. I’ve not been able to find any guidance online as to how to do it?

I don’t suppose anybody can help with this one? Thanks…

Open the user manual, then find how to change a fog light bulb, when you find out how to pull the side grill the middle one is a joke
