Road Sign recognition

Hi all,
Does anyone know in VW group who is responsible for ensuring that Speed signs are correct in the cars system.
I ask as I’ve experienced a few annoying occasions whereby I’ll be happily cruising on an A road at 60mph, the car will then pass or approach the next sign and it drops the speed to say 40mph when the speed limit never changed, unfortunately it’s not a soft brake either.
There are some occasions where it’s the opposite. I live in Northampton and use the A45 a lot and there is a section whereby the cars system thinks the speed limit is 120mph when it’s actually only 70mph

My only experience of this (dropping from 60 - 40mph when it should not), is when the front facing camera that reads the road signs picks up a 40mph sign that's intended only for heavy goods vehicles (IE. cars can continue on at 60mph).

Are you using cruise control when this happens? As I’ve never had this happen to me when my car has read the wrong sign.

In the MIB menu, click on IQ drive, then the roadsign.
De-select the predict option.

Sounds like your car’s software is confusing mph speed limits for kph - that was a very common software issue in earlier mk8 Golf’s. 60 kph is 37.3 mph, so roughly the 40mph figure you’ve quoted in your post. Similarly, 120 kph is 74.5 mph - close to the 70 mph figure you’ve quoted. With the Golf, there were instances when travelling on the motorway at the national motorway speed limit and the car ‘saw’ a reduced speed limit on an exit slip road (e.g. 60 mph), the car was slowed to 60 - the slip road speed limit - but 60 kph (37 mph) rather than 60 mph. That could create a potentially dangerous situation if travelling in the fast lane at 70 mph and being tailgated by another vehicle to suddenly slow to 37 mph. I think this issue on the Golf (along with many other software related issues) has been fixed with a software update.
Report it to your dealer as there may be a software update available to fix it. If they say there isn’t a fix or they’re unable to reproduce the issue, then tell them you’re aware of this issue in early mk8 Golf’s and also get a passenger to video the sudden speed change indicated on the instrument cluster while you’re driving to use as evidence of the problem for the dealer’s benefit.
Alternatively, assuming it’s possible to switch off road sign recognition, just switch it off! We managed perfectly well for many years without these nannying ‘driver aids’ so reverting back to a situation where the driver is in control shouldn’t be a hardship

.

Correction,
In MIB menu-> IQ Drive-> click on the car in front of your own (ACC)-> de-select predicted allowed speed

I've had mine read the speed signs on adjacent roads or slip lanes and then adjust my speed to that. It's a little annoying but I assumed its just a standard thing with these roadsign recognition systems.

If your response is aimed at me.
Then "yes" it happens when using ACC (IE. the car brakes and slows down) . And if not using ACC, but the speed warning is set, it warns you that you are exceeding the speed limit (when you are not).
In my opinion, the front facing camera reads not only the "round" speed limit signs (applicable to all vehicles). But also the "rectangular" ones with speed limits for heavy goods vehicles.
This issues manifests itself every time I pass these sorts of signs.

Sorry Mike, was a general question. It explains why I don’t see it then, as I don’t really use the acc. I tend to use the speed limiter instead as I drive round the m60 with its constantly changing limits.

Saw a Red Gti on the M60 a couple of weeks ago, came past me in my white one not far off the turnoff for the m602. Wonder if it was you.

If it was 6am or about 4-4:30pm could well be! I overtook a white gti on the m61 last week as well, 72 plate. Gave the driver a wave!

You’ll probably not see me round there in my car, but if you see some weirdo driving a tram and waving at you, then that’ll be me.

Thank you all for the replies, sorry it was sooner but I wasn't receiving notifications when messages were being posted.
I will keep an eye on how it behaves and should it continue I will report to the dealer.
