By selecting Sport mode for the Exhaust does that improve the efficiency of the engine and therefore improve fuel economy. All other settings left as standard.

It might improve (lower) backpressure when you're at high rpm with high throttle application. I think you're way past the point of any fuel mileage improvement there anyway. At normal driving, it will not give you any noticeable improvement.

I also have a 2020 GTI+ and there isn’t an option to select ‘Exhaust’ when in ‘Individual’ mode. These are the options;

If you’re meaning ‘Engine Sound’ rather than Exhaust, then selecting Sport for Engine Sound just increases the amount of fake engine noise generated by the soundaktor compared to Normal and Eco options for Engine Sound. Whichever Engine Sound setting is selected will have no impact on engine efficiency or fuel consumption.
I don’t like the fake engine noise so have Engine Sound set to Eco so the fake noise is at its minimum setting.

@SRGTD even on the facelift gti it’s the same exact settings. All mine are set to sport bar engine sound which is set to eco. All of the fun of sport mode with none of the annoying rattle.

mine on normal sound, as sport sound makes my dash rattle on spirited driving, within speed limits.

Out of curiosity, I tried the ‘Engine Sound’ set to ‘Sport’ yesterday. I managed to tolerate it for 5 miles before I’d had enough and was relieved when relative silence was restored again after switching it (permanently) back to ‘Eco’

.
Maybe it’s an age thing, but five miles was more than enough to confirm that fake engine noise at maximum volume isn’t for me

.

Thanks for that, I was obviously misinterpreting 'Engine Noise' for 'Exhaust Setting'. Engine noise now set to 'Eco' and is much more tolerable
