Steering wheel swap

I have 2012 1.6 TDI with a multifunction steering wheel (left side only) and one of the buttons is on its way out. Instead of replacing just the buttons, I was thinking of replacing the whole wheel but one that looks a bit more appealing (think gti).

What options do I have where I can do just a straight swap?

I also have cruise control and the buttons to that don't work either, would a steering wheel with CC controls on the wheel work?

Sorry if these questions seem a bit daft :P

Straight swap.
-Blue GT, GTI, WRC 6R Steering Wheels. None of them have buttons for CCS.

There are more possibilities with a few modifications, but it is not a straight swap, you have to change the BCM - 2015 onwards - (for button lighting) and install the Cruise Control Emulator - sold by Slavik - (to make the CC buttons work), with the CCEmulator it's also possible to have heated steering wheel, although major modification to G85 slip ring and other fixes are necessary.

For example:

With the CCE 'all' the buttons work perfectly. 8)

I always wondered, can't the lights be wired so they are always on? For those with <2015 bcm it could be a good way to do since they can't really be seen during the day and would have them on during the night.

I think it can be done by making a small botch in the integrated circuit of the buttons...

Swapping a 2010-2014 BCM for a like-spec 2015-2019 BCM on a PQ25 w/o kessy is a doddle with VCDS (10 minutes).
Much easier than taking the buttons apart, make the bridge by soldering on the integrated circuit, etc... so that the button lighting works but not in a OEM way.

IMHO, the OEM solution is always the priority... (later diagnoses, etc.)

oh thought it was a real hassle to do the BCM swap, but since it's that easy, yeah, it would be the better choice

Here the forum has mostly dealt with the change from BCM in PQ25, but from BCM High or Low to BCM MAX in an OEM way, which implies a new wiring looms installation.
Changing a BCM High to a BCM High, ie of the same specification does not require the installation of new cables. Even if you change a BCM High to a BCM Max and at first you don't care about the faults detected in the diagnosis :) , it would only be necessary to install a couple of cables (CAN lines).

Thought I would just post here instead of making a whole new thread.

From what I understand, I can also fit a steering wheel from a Golf Mk6 with buttons on both sides.

The only downside to this is that the buttons on the right control the board computer and this will interfere with the buttons on the stalk. From what I gather, I would have to change out my steering column switch for one that doesn't have the buttons.

After a bit of digging, the part number to my current column switch is 6Q0 953 503 EJ. This also has cruise control butrons. I found here in another thread on the forum that someone swapped theirs out for 6R0953507B which still has cruise control buttons but none for the board computer (which I need for the steering wheel buttons to work), would this column switch work on my car too?

G85 ring and combi switch (6R, etc): there are two models according to manufacturing date, 6Q0 << 05/2012 >> 6R0.
The 6R0 model would not be compatible with your current G85 ring (6Q0), although you can also swap out the G85 ring (6R0) and upgrade the complete set.
Whenever a new G85 (new or used) is installed it is necessary to carry out the basic setting (eg. with VCDS).

Ok that seems like too much hassle for my liking. I'm having a hard time finding a steering wheel anyway so I'm just going to stick with what I have.

I don't know if I have mentioned it but my cruise control buttons don't work on my stalk and now the buttons in my steering wheel are starting to give in.

I would like to replace my steering wheel column with 6Q0953513AL9B9 - this has the cruise control buttons on the stalk but the not board computer buttons like my current one does. If I understand correctly, I can install the right side buttons to my steering wheel and this should control my board computer? I took the airbag out today and noticed that there is somewhere to switch one into.
