Key progamming

Hello

The primary key for my 2016 Polo seems to have failed, a replacement battery doesn't bring it back to life. The previous spare continues to work OK.

So, I have sourced a replacement so I have two keys. The replacement is apparently a functional one, of an identical part number. But, I can't get it to work with the car despite attempting various suggested methods to get it to programmed.

When the "new" key arrived pressing the lock button flashed the light on the fob, but i only did so once. Now nothing, have tried various batteries.

What is the correct procedure to make it work or even determine if I know have two duff keys? Thanks.

The main part of a car key programming is programming the transponder chip within the key so that it "unlocks" the engine immobiliser, if this is not done, then it is game over.

It has been said many times, and I have not needed to put it to the test, that the immobiliser chips can only be programmed once in their life, so, if you have bought a key-fob that has already been assigned to a car, but maybe not used, so the seller just replaced the blade with either a blank, or a blade cut to suit a photo of your car's key blade, then I don't think that will work.

Sorry if none of that applies to what you have done so far.

The simpler part of a smart key-fob is the remote locking functionality, but normally that can be sorted out by the user even when using a previously "assigned to another car" key-fob.
