Key only turns one click in the ignition.

I had to repair my steering column recently and when I put it all back together I went to start the car to check I had put all the wires back correctly, but the key will only turn to the ignition and not any further. Also, no lights appear on the dash when I turn the key to the point I can. Any advice as to what I've broken / a fix?
