The tailgate is jammed shut on out 2007 Polo, the electrics seem to be working OK and I have tried the manual release via the slot on the inside of the tailgate but this is not releasing the lock. I cannot remove the tailgate plastic cover because the tailgate is stuck shut. Am I going to have to cut an access panel in the tailgate cover in order to gain access to the lock and sort out the problem?

2007 polo still has the cilinder in the boot right?

MY2008 (july '07 - june '08) was the year that vw deleted the barrel.
If you have a late 2007 model then there should be a slot in the boot cover on the inside.
This is the mechanical connection to the lock, it should work.
Have you tried to push the open button on the keyfob and push the lid from the inside?
