Key chip

Hi
I have been looking through posts but can't find my problem.
I have 2 keys (basic ones) 1 with vw logo 1 with light.
VW key starts the car and runs fine.
The key with the light starts the car, but the car with a spanner flashes orange on the dashboard (immobiliser?). I am also able to drive forward and back with no problems, which makes me doubt the immobiliser, i haven' driven incase i break down.
I have taken the key apart and I can't see a chip, I don't understand how the car runs without it.
Hope somebody has some info to help me
Thanks
Sarah

Do both keys open the locks on the outside of the car?

SarahL77, I agree with you, that "shaped" empty area in that key looks like an immobiliser "pellet" should be in there!

Though I've had any reason to open up one of these basic keys.

Maybe, just maybe, someone has indeed removed the immobiliser pellet and fixed it under the dash near where the ignition key position is - a funky way - maybe, a making a second key work!

Hummmm.

Thank you for the reply, my second key works great without flashing. When I get my car back from mot I am going to have a look around the column

So, if the other key works perfectly, then maybe it is just this key that does not have a imob pellet in it, maybe with both keys in the car, fit the "faulty" one into the ignition and hold the other key very close to it, now start the car, the imob aerial should "see" the second key and so the waring will not be given out until you move the good key away from the ignition switch area.
