Curious about GT BHP and 0-60 times with and without mods...

Basically exactly what the subject says, interested as to what results you lot with the Gt's have had with different mods?
I'm just thinking about where to start on mine you see, and you'd be the best people to ask.
Any user accounts on products or links would be handy,
thanks

Standard, a GT should hit 60 in around 11 seconds (slightly under) and have 75bhp.

I've never timed my 0-60 or put it on a RR, but with a chip, exhaust and de-cat it's certainly got more guts than it used to have.

Thats what i thought. How much did you exhaust set you back? I'm thinking of something like a two inch with no catalyst.

By the way, our cars share the same H### ERP plates :)

Mine's a 2.25" system, cost me £200 but that was 4 and a half years ago. Thinking on it, in that time it's paid for itself in terms of replacement exhausts! I went to Longlife to get mine done, they'll basically do just about any style you want but they're not as cheap as they used to be, I'd expect to pay upwards of £300 depending on your choice of tailpipe.

What H***ERP do you have, I'm collecting pics of them! There are LOADS, all Polo GTs:

H656ERP (mine)
H657ERP (same colour as mine, was for sale in PVW classifieds)
H660ERP (a red one, snapped going into Inters 2004)
H714ERP (black, mint standard example seen at Inters 2003)
H768ERP (black, modified, seen at Inters 2003)
H842ERP (india red, now with G40 conversion, belongs to a guy called Wayne Tabram)

Are any of those yours?

In all truth, 0-60 means very little it's just a standard way of comparing cars.

VW times are recorded with a full tank of fuel and a passenger if I recall, so yeah they're a little out but the figure I'm referring to is from a test carried out by Performance Car magazine who recorded a 10.9 second 0-60 sprint for the GT. Though unremarkable against the other cars in the test the in-gear acceleration was actually near top of the board.

With speedo inaccuracies to take into account, plus the difficulties of timing a 0-60 run it's difficult to say exactly what the time taken is without fancy equipment or GPS.

Not questioning you by the way, just pouring the dull contents of my mind out.

well my GT with chip, stainless steel system with cat on (i really need a de-cat but cant afford it!  ) and GTI Air flow meter with cotton green kit, and fuel tank in the red with me on my own did 0-60 in just between 9 and 10 seconds. but that was me counting on my own so i dunno. its screaming out for a de-cat, straight through pipe, and the digifnat coil/amp mod then it will be a beauty!

Yeah i think i turned in a 17 second one in the 1.0 on a good day.... was surprised and suspicious of a hidden gradient, so stopped, turned round - and repeated it.

that was probably at the time i was running 145/70s though :D

Back in the days when I was partial to the odd race, I raced a VTR and beat it. They hit 60 in around 9 and a half, so I'm quite pleased with that.

With what I've got planned though, I'll be chasing the VTS hopefully. 8)

Flowed head, Schrick 268, de-cat, chip, K&N in drilled box, 2-up, harrassing a Cooper S along a windy country road..side by side with a Vento VR off of a roundabout...ah, memories :P That car did and 18.01 1/4, 11.1 0-60 at Inters on the (rather wet) Sunday fully laden with camping gear, purchases and fuel. In gear it was quite impressive as I think the 20vt GTI driver agreed judging by his thumbs-up and nod after a little encounter. Tbh I don't believe the cam was timed in correctly either

Paul Gidman's old GT (donor for my foglights, which gives an idea of the fact that it's not around any more) caned a BMW 525 estate after Inters 2001, the BMW owner pulled him over just down the road:

"What the f**k is under the bonnet of that?"
"1300cc"
"Supercharged?"
"No"
"S**t, this one's a 525!"

lol, would've loved to see that

I had a similar experience with a Honda Blackbird on a long stretch of dual carriageway - it started at about 70mph and he wacked the throttle open as I started to overtake - I was in 3rd at the time which is best between 70 to 140 - he backed of at 140 and looked back expecting me to be miles behind and I was just sitting there with me indicator on ready to overtake - he gassed it again but I'd already got the hammer down and was in 5th with a gear to go at 160 - he went to look back again and found me along side - you should have seen the look on his face it was priceless - I think he gave up at this point and I went past - I kept it going hard for a another 1/4 of a mile (I think I backed off the wrong side of 170 never even bothered with top) and then mindfull of the end of the dual section took my foot of and let the speed ebb away - I got to the set of lights at the end of the dual section and a short while after he pulled up alongside and said

"no std vauxhall has ever got past me - if fact you are the first car thats ever got past - what the hell have you done to it"

I just pointed out the Lotus badges on the wings and said the shell is a Vauxhall - the 400 bhp is all Lotus...... Kept a smile on my face for weeks
