Sloppy gear stick when in gear

I drove my daughters 65 plate 1.2 tsi last weekend and felt the gear stick was really wobbly when in gear.

Stick moves about 1cm each side of centre. I don’t drive it often, but it didn’t feel right.

What can I do to tighten up the gear stick?

I removed the gear shift gaiter and saw the plastic bushes in there. Would replacing these help? What is best?

Id check the plastic bush on the transmission
On the cable ends and on the metal part.
