Headlight headache with Polo

Post by John24ssj2 »

Hi All,

I am really struggling with my Polo at its headlights. I've failed mot a few times on headlights and since then been through 2 original used sets and this time bought a brand new set from Germany for £100. Of course it failed because the pattern made was for European roads :( So i bought another set from Eurocarparts TYC for £160 and it failed retest. Was told that drivers side was fine but passengers was wrong. I came back home and checked the bulb and it was fully seated, so I though that would be it BUT today it again failed. Since I am at work my wife's been the one taking the car and is now sick of it. She took some pictures as well:

Drivers side:

Passenger side:

The only think I can think of is that the bulbs might not be the same brand I am not sure, but would that made any difference?

Thanks for any help

In these two pictures the drivers side looks off, looks like high beam is on.
These are new units?
Then try some good quality bulbs

Are you sure wiring is okay?
Do you have highbeam on both sides visible? (i.e. in front of a wall) (H4 lights I presume?)

Headlight reflectors for left hand drive vehicles are not the same for right hand drive vehicles. If mixed up, the lights can blind oncoming traffic which may result in a fail. Does not necessarily mean that your bulbs are at fault. Are you sure you sure you've bought the right type of headlights for your country?

Thanks for replies guys.

After doing some further testing it turned out to be a faulty headlight unit. I got that replaced and all's good now :)
