Getting into car with dead battery and broken keys.

Hello,
My dad accidently left the lights on on my Polo 6R last night and the battery is now drained. Unfortunately, the key in the hole does not work and the lock barrel just spins around and doesn't open. We've tried putting a bit of wire and string round the passenger door handle and pulling but the door still doesn't open for some reason. Is there any way we can non destructively get into the car (not breaking a window)? Thanks.

...ask yourself again why it doesn't open, then provide the vehicle with what it needs to open with the remote control. ;)

It is possible without opening the bonnet/hood.⚡ (non-destructive way)
...by pulling from the bonnet cable can break something.

Well, how did you get on, I hope that you worked out why pulling the internal door release could not work - if not, the locks will be deadlocked?

Hi, for some reason i did not get email updates for this but I fixed it ages ago!

What I did was go under the undertray and connect a wire to the starter motor positive terminal and the negative to the screw in hook thing on the front. (i think its for towing).
Then, i connected these to a lab power supply and put 12V in.

This charged the battery enough for me to unlock with electric fob and then undo bonnet and charge it properly.

Good result, and thanks for getting back to us in case it helps someone.

So, did you then repair the "key lock" so that you will, if this happens again for any other reason, be able to unlock this car, also do you have 2 working keys for this car, if not sort that out as well.

Edit:- remember that having working "key locks" is useful for when the battery fails and the car is locked(dead locked), but also very handy if the central locking system or battery fails when the car is unlocked, ie so that you can lock the driver's door after manually locking the other side door(s).

Well done!😉

A laboratory power supply is fine, but it has the disadvantage of having to have a power outlet nearby.
For this type of tasks, and whenever storage is possible, it is very good and helpful to have a spare battery and a battery charger (even if they are heavily used/second-hand or ultra-cheap).

Hi, I haven't replaced the actual lock yet, i got a man round to do it but he accidently bought the wrong one so at the moment I have a key i got made that only works on the door. I'll probably replace the lock before I sell the car though
