Mk2 insurance groups:

Polo (standard hatch): Group 3
Polo (standard coupe), 1.0 C, 1.0 CL, 1.3 CL, Fox, 1.0 Match, 1.0 Boulevard, Catalyst, 1.3 GL, 1.0 Parade: Group 4
1.3 Match, 1.3 Ranger, 1.3 Parade, 1.3 Coupe S: 6

Tax on any mk2 polo is £60 (6 months)/£110 (12 months).

Hope that helped :)

Oh the mk2 squarebacks? Are the 1.0L and 1.3Cl's both group 4?
Sorry for being a little bit dim

Mine's a 1043 C.. about as cheap as you can get without going down to the absolute base model.. that one cut costs to the extent of only having a drivers side wing mirror and not having a parcel shelf over the boot  Unsuprisingly there aren't too many around...

Both 1.0 and 1.3 CL are group 4 for some reason, the only mk2's above group 4 are the special editions and the coupe S :)

Did you get that info off the parkers website? Im not sure its entirely accurate. It says the 1.3 Genesis is group 4 as well which im pretty sure it aint. (be nice if it was tho) Ive had a 1.3 Ranger and a 1.3 CL and the CL was cheaper by about £20, but I put that down to being a mk3 and having "better" brakes. Doesnt disinguish betwwen mk2s and 3s on there either (which is odd) General rule of thumb though is

1043cc - group 4 - try and find that one thats in group 3! (you wont be able to)
1272cc - group 6

Yeah, it was from parkers. I think the groups are right, but insurance companies take into account things like how many claims they've had for each model etc when they quote, and they're more likely to get a lot of claims from people driving a 1.3 than a 1.0...
It doesn't specifically distinguish between mk2 and mk3, but it says if it's talking about the injection or carb model which is pretty much the same thing..

Just been getting some insurance quotes of the tesco website. Theres not alot in it really. Been meaning to do this for a while, so this was quite a good incentive.

Own policy, 3 years + Driving experience, on driveway, 6000 miles/year. TPFT quotes.

Squareback
1.0 C mk2 £538
1.3 GL mk2 £599
1.3 CL mk2 £605
1.3 Ranger mk2 £627

1.0 CL mk3 £537
1.3 CL mk3 £614
1.3 Genesis mk3 £672
1.3 GT mk3 £691

I Couldnt be bothered doin the coupe or saloon. But based on that info methinks when I buy a runaround I might be going for a ranger over a genesis. On the list of models I looked at on parkers it didnt distingusih in anyway between the mk2 and 3 Ive just had another look. Theyve changed the site again reecently and the full review of the mk3 has now dropped off their reviews pages. (which is where u used to get the tech info) :(

Damn, shoulda gone Mark2! My Mark3 Coupe (1.3CL) is down as a Group 7 which is crippling for a 17year old! If I saved my pennies up further I could try and stretch to the Group 8 GT Coupe.

Group 7? That's ridiculous.. my dad's mk2 clio 1.6 RXE is a group 7, that's got 40bhp more than a 1.3 CL along with an extra third of a litre engine capacity... some of these insurance groups really need to be reconsidered...
