Hi, could someone please help? The drivers door central locking button will not lock the doors from the inside, makes locking sound but does not function? Central locking works fine from key fob. How can I replace this switch if this is the problem? I am a new driver and wanted this as a safety feature. Many thanks.

This button locks the doors for the outside handles.
Try it.
It's like anti carjack feature.

In the event that the BCM (comfort/convenience module) is coded correctly, this is the way to remove it, example:

2
The problem could be caused by the switch or the wiring.

I have understood that some owners deactivate some central locking functions because it is supposedly believed that these functions cause the lock microswitches to break sooner... some of that happened in the locks of older SEATs, but it is not common in POLO 6Rs

Ok thank you, I will try and remove the switch and possibly replace. I would like the doors to lock so access can not be made from the outside whilst I am inside. The switch makes the locks active but not lock.

Just so we are clear, how are you testing this ? From inside the car by pulling the interior handle as if you were exiting the car or with the window open trying the open the door using exterior handle ?
When activated (locked from the interior switch) you will always be able to exit the vehicle by Using the interior handle to unlock and open the door, but not open the door using the exterior handle, I hope that makes sense.

It makes perfect sense, with the window down/open and trying to open the door from the outside is the way to test it... or wait until your wife wants to get into the car and can't open the door from the outside door handle (I recommend not making her wait too long to open from the interior switch...

)

Also, along with what CarbonChaos pointed out, if the internal central locking switch has been pressed, the back light(LED) on that switch should now be "ON" or lit up.
What age is your car, is it a pre facelift or post facelift up to sometime in 2014 it will be 6R so pre facelift, after some time in 2014 onwards it will be post facelift, both cars can have "anti carjacking" enabled - I coded that in on a 2009 SEAT Ibiza SC using Carista, and did the same on a 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSII using VCDS, so it will be possible to have this feature working automatically instead of you needing to do it manually.

-Having a slight fobia from locking my keys. Does anyone know what might be the problem?

That sounds a lot like a faulty driver's door lock.

Does your interior light comes on when you open that door?

yeah, just check it out the micro switch is not working. I know i saw some corrosion on door to body connector. The lower part of the connector. I will have to check that first.
thanks
