I have a CJZC engine which calls for oil 508 00 or 504 00 spec oil according to the VW maintenance table (EDIT: it doesn’t - see my comment further down - only 504 00 is applicable). I can get 5L of 508 00 0W-20 oil for $138 vs 5L of 504 00 5W-30 oil for $102. Both options are from Penrite Australia. I am wondering if there is any benefit with paying extra for the 508 00 besides CO2 emission and petrol use reduction, which I’m guessing would be a minute reduction anyway. The previous services done by VW appear to use 504 00 5W-30 according to the service receipt.

Long life engine oils used to be 5W30 when Castrol as the supplier. When the contract expired and shell won the bod, it became 0W30. I'm pretty confident your initial fill was even 5W30.
Apparently 508.00 spec must be 0W20. I don't really see any reason to use the more expensive 508.00 over the 504.00. 504.00 is perfectly fine.

Are you sure tou engine is concerned by 50800 oil spec ?

Because you can put 507 in 508 engine, but in the other way it's impossible or at least, not recommended.

The new 504/507 is 0W30 manufactured by Shell. Castrol is no longer oil's official supplier (of crap) for VAG. Shell, Wolf and an other one are.

50400/50700 is the same.

I see that DOT 4 brake fluid is required for my car. Is B000750M3 suitable for this? It is the same price as the aftermarket Penrite Australia option.
Additionally, the maintenance manual suggests that 1L of brake fluid is required. Considering B000750M3 comes with exactly 1L is it generally recommended to have a bit of excess for the renewing?

Yep B000750M3 is a dot 4 fluid. I think you'll be fine with one litre, but it's close. Typically you'll bleed the caliper until the clear fluid comes out. The old fluid is often more dark and it's easy to see the difference.

I’m thinking of pickup up a B000750M1 (250mL) to act as a backup in case I need to pump more than 1L of brake fluid before clean fluid comes out.

508 is the new requirement for 2018 and next engine coming out of factory since 2018.
Before this year, you HAVE to use 504/507 oil, nothing else.

I see what you mean. I was under the impression that they stopped making the CJZC engine and that it was referring to servicing oil requirements past the year of 2018, but upon reading it again this morning that does not make sense considering what is written. Good to know, thanks for pointing that out.

CJZC is no longer produced since 2017-2018 but yeah, the VW's document is tricky to understand sometimes.
