I said that you don't want a serious install for now but imagine that in a near future you change your mind. I think it's better to buy something a little better than buy a cheap thing and regreat it.
But getting to the point. You'll need to buy coaxial 16cm speakers (you can buy 2-way separeted speakers but you'll need to make a hole somewhere to put the tweater) and you must run some cable to the back doors because cars with beta radio doesn't have them.

Agree! Ask me!! I give you lots of good things about Alpine.
Sony is just for the looks and pricey too! Their most expensive one is like a grand with nothing!

Only a radio in second hand. Brand new the price of Alpine HUs is way above that.

The cheapest Alpine is around £180 I believe.
Well if you're skint, then I won't blame you for other brands. But ought to go for Alpine whenever possible mate (head-unit) wise that is.

On the low spec of the alpine range (Bass Engine) you can control Bass & Treble and from Bass Engine Plus to Bass Engine Pro you can adjust that trough the Equalizer

And you can set the frequency and "Bass Type", which is basically pre-set bass levels and frequency, which suits what speakers you have installed to the system. Quite cool.
But I found out that it becomes way to confusing with my new head-unit, it included stuff like Time Correction, Low/High Pass Filter, Active X-Over, etc... which just got me really confused! Above all that, you get the standard Frequency for Treble, which is like 10KHz, 12.5KHz, 15Khz and 17KHz. What the hell do they all mean?!
Not to mention that you get 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz and 160Hz for the Bass Control.
Sorry I just have a bit of crisis with my system at the moment.

I didn't understand what you mean. What you have is Digital Time correction (on HU with Bass Engine Plus or Pro) that can delay the signal sent to your speakers so that the sound arrives to you all at the same time. You have X-over wich is the right way to select wich frequencies go to wich speakers (tweeter, woofer and sub) and you have the parametric equalizer wich lets you to adjust wich frequencies you want to enhance or the opossite.

Hey I dont' have a clue what I'm talking about either, that's why I don't have a clue!
But yeah, I just don't the frequency bit when you can set it to different settings for Bass and Treble. I mean, how will a 60Hz differ from 120Hz for the sub for instance?

Subwoofer - LOW frequencies
Woofer - MID frequencies
Tweeter - High frequencies
The human ear can notice frequencies between 20Hz - 20KHz.
For example a subwoofer reproduce more easily low frequencies than high frequencies (this is where the X-over comes in, it cuts the high frequencies that goes to the subwoofer).
As far as the equalizer it tells wich frequencies plays louder than the other (enhance and desenhance some frequencies).
