Rear axel set up looks strange.

Hi guys,
I’m new on here so point me in the right direction if this is posted in the wrong place.
I was changing the wheel bearings on my daughter’s polo which didn’t get rid of the noise but I noticed that the axels didn’t look right (see pics). Can anyone tell me if this is normal and if not, what could be the possible reason for the modification. We swapped the 16” alloys for 17” which appear to sit too far back in the rear arches and rub when the car is loaded.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Alisdair

Looks like there's 2 caliper mounting brackets in there. That doesn't seem right to me.

pic on left happens when you lower the car
That car was probably a stance car before you bought it.

Is it just me, or does the caliper mounting tabs on the axle, under that centering plate, look bent? See the first photo.

Yes, it looks bent.
...and two shock absorbers from different manufacturers on the same axle, it doesn't look good.

i got a theory, the calliper mount on original axle on drivers right was bent
cheapest repair was to get these drop plates for a second mounting instead of a replacement rear axle (rear axle body may not be repaired)
and a damper was either leaking and replaced (but only one, i think you should do two)
or the same thing that bent the calliper, also had a meeting with the shock absorber. but the one on drivers right looks OEM and left looks aftermarket. so this is not likely.
either way, it doesn't look like it was done last week or last month, given the corrosion

Could probably get that sorted out with some heat and hammer, but I wouldn't risk a misaligned caliper or stressed metal.
