Mk2 brake light fault

Hi!
I’ve had my lovely mk2 bready almost 10 years now, and still run it as a daily.
I’ve had an intermittent issue with ALL of my break lights not working.
I usually take it to a VAG garage when the MOT or service is due and they sort it, but the garage I trust is over an hour away and there’s no other issues right now. I’d rather get to the bottom of what the issue actually is and know how sort it myself.
It’s 1984 C formel E.
Not the fuse, not the bulbs?
