Annoying Rattle/Knocking

Hi all.

Got a really annoying rattle under the floor or behind dash.
It's really hard to tell where it's coming from but sure it's from one of those areas. It's really noticeable when driving say 20-30 mph on a quiet road. It doesn't even need to be on a bad surface or bumps to hear the rattling. But when you go over a bump you can hear a knock.
Everything has been taken out the car so nothing there. Its been up on the ramp this morning and the garage couldn't see anything untoward. The car drives perfect apart from this annoyance.
Anyone had this experience or any suggestions where to start first?
Much appreciated. 2016 1.2 TSI 57k

Have a look under the windscreen cowl.

Perform a video record, otherwise it will be very complicated to locate, analyse the sound etc...

Absolutely doing my swede in now this rattling knocking noise.
It's been at the garage today up on the ramps and they can not find the issue. They can only replicate the noise when driving but not when stationary. They say they have checked everything and all seems to be OK.
It's very noticeable at low speeds in 2nd and 3rd gear particularly when engine is under load but noticeable throughout all speeds although not noticeable at motorway speeds due to road noise.
It's like a plastic rattling constantly vibrating and then like a popping noise when you go over a slight bump.
It feels like it is coming from under the floor drivers side but also feels linked to the wheels. Garage is baffled by it. Going to have a look under seats tomorrow.
Front discs and pads have been changed recently and the back pads also.
I saw a video of someone jacking each corner of the car up and then hitting the tyre with a rubber Mallet to try find the noise. I will try this tomorrow.
Any ideas anyone? Cheers

This annoying rattling is difficult to find. It's been to the garage and been up in the air and they can't find anything.
They say they have checked everything but cannot see anything wrong.
It makes me feel more assured that it is nothing serious but just annoying.
It sounds like a popping noise when driving over bumps but very rattley like a plastic rattle on even slightly uneven surfaces. Done a long drive yesterday on the motorway very smooth surface and you can still make out the rattling over the road/tyre noise.
It sounds like it's something behind the dash but can feel vibration through the floor drivers side.
Pulling my hair out. Please help.
PS it's not the plastic caps on the top of the shocks.
Cheers

Think I've found it.

I believe it is the brakes rattling. When driving and hearing the rattle if I rest my left foot on the brake pedal I can feel vibration. If I press slightly the vibration and rattling stops.

Brake discs and pads were changed 6 weeks ago!

Hopefully this can be fixed easily.

Anyone know if there is a kit to stop pads rattling? Or is it a case of changing the pads?

Cheers

On the 6C Polos with rear disc brakes, at least in my wife's August 2015 1.2TSI, there is no shims fitted.

I tried buying a suitable set of shims, but unless I file/grind off some metal from the rear pads or calliper, there is not enough room for these shims.

Mind you, I had to replace the RHS rear calliper with a re-manufactured (by Pagid) one and new pads - and maybe I should have or should soon, try to fit shims to that side.

My wife's previous 2002 9N Polo 1.4 did have rear disc brakes and did have shims fitted.

The aftermarket Brembo offerings have been know to be a "bit slack" in general - your rear pads are not Brembo are they?

Edit:- the part about the shims not fitting the calliper is wrong, they fit over the calliper carrier as I've posted below!

That last posting I made is slightly wrong, I've just worked that out after posting, anyway, the shims do not get fitted to the calliper, they get fitted to the calliper carrier bracket - so I will not have to check my wife's rear RHS brake!
