Has anyone replaced their standard shift knob with an aftermarket one?
If you have, how did you deal with the gaiter?

I see the leather on my shift knob is starting to fray a bit from wear. The gaiter is perfect.
But I have an original MOMO Airleather in my garage. I bought this probably 20+ years ago for my old Audi. Still in the box and perfect shape. It might even take the shift point down a bit; could be a bit better than the boat oar currently in there.

Why complicate the things?

clean the rod, put few turns of cloth tape to prevent the zip tie from sliding. remove the plastic clip in for the gaiter that goes into the oem knob.

If you want it fancy you could make a groove in the rod for the zip tie using a dremel.

Or cut threads into the new shift knob, make a plate that will sandwich the gaiter to the new knob by screwing its self into the knob.

Who is complicating anything? I simply asked if and what people did.

The knob has a lower screw-on part. That'll sandwich it. Will give it a try when I have it apart again.
