2024 Polo GTi

Post by Ian T »

Hi Folks

This is embarrassing actually but today I'm taking delivery of a new 2024 Polo GTi but I have no idea what Mk it is. I'm handing back a Golf R 7.5 and that was simple, you've had the Mk 8 Golf and now the 8.5 and Mk 7 before them but when it comes to Polos I have no idea. I have Googled it obviously (a lot) but it's still not clear. Any help, on the official designation, in anticipation would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Ian

You are posting in polo Forums MK10 and MK11

Shouldn't be that difficult

@Maarten; but a 2024 Polo isn’t actually a mk11 from VW’s perspective - it’s a mk6 as far a VW are concerned.

@Ian T; As with the Golf, each generation of car has the launch version and then a mid-lifecycle facelift. From this forum’s perspective, the launch model and subsequent facelift of each generation of car are designated as a separate mk e.g. the previous generation Polo built from 2009 - 2017 in forum speak is the mk8 (pre-facelift) and mk9 (facelift) whereas from VW’s perspective they were both the fifth (mk5) generation car with the pre-facelift car being the 6R Polo and the facelift car the 6C Polo. Similarly, with the current generation Polo, the forum refers to the pre-facelift car as the mk10 and the facelift as the mk11. They’re both the sixth generation Polo; pre-facelift is the mk6 (AW) Polo and the facelift is the mk6 (BZ) Polo. So your new 2024 Polo GTI will be a mk6 (BZ) Polo GTI. Hope that makes sense.

As for how the naming / numbering convention works that VW have used (e.g. 6R, 6C, AW, BZ) - sorry, I have absolutely no idea.

Enjoy your new car 🙂.

I know, but in the UK it is, I thought he is in the UK
Maybe just call it AW.

Never understood why it has to be different in the UK

That is really helpful mate I figured it wasn't that simple. Interestingly it is a car that was already in stock that I've leased (33 miles on the clock) from late '23 and hasn't got the 'haptic sensors' on the steering wheel (apparently a good thing) no red dash, no start/stop button and has a conventional handbrake lever but has got the latest big rear lights.... so is it must be a weird pre latest facelift I guess????

Doesn’t sound weird to me 😄. From what you’ve described, your car sounds like a fairly standard spec GTI - the BZ facelift version - that went into production around the end of 2021.

For the facelift Polo GTI, VW reverted back to steering wheels with conventional buttons from (I think) around the start of model year 2024 vehicle production which would have been June / July time last year. Grey instead of glossy red trim inserts were a no cost option on the GTI. Keyless entry / keyless start was an extra cost option, so your car wouldn’t have this unless the dealer who ordered your car for their stock specified it when placing the vehicle order with the factory. No Polos have an electric handbrake, hence why you’ve got a conventional handbrake lever. All current model facelift Polos have the larger two piece rear lights that extend into the tailgate.

Hi I am enjoying it but the petrol consumption is awful :) I've been trying to connect the car to wifi/internet and then my phone but I'm really struggling with conflicting information everywhere (including the infotainment screen) Is there a simple way of doing it? The 'use infotainment system as hotspot' just doesn't seem to work for me????

My long term fuel consumption is currently 43.4 mpg and I often see 50+ mpg on journeys of 25-30 miles or more. Much of that is due to primary to the heavily congested single carriageway roads in the part of the UK where I live where there’s no option to do anything other than just go with the flow of the traffic. I also don’t use my car on short journeys - I’ll walk unless I have something too large / heavy to carry: better for me and kinder to the planet.

My car is a 2020 pre-facelift GTI+ with earlier generation tech so not sure I can help. Hopefully there’ll be forum members with facelift Polos that’ll read your post and can help.

If your car is new, then did not the dealership set up your internet connection for the car etc. for you?

You should have 3 years free access.

PS. I would agree with SRGTD about the fuel consumption. And mine is a 2022 face lift model.
Low to mid 40's easily achievable and 50+ if trying to "hyper mile" the car.
Though obviously if you drive hard (or loads of short journeys etc.) then the fuel consumption will take a hit.
IE. Considering the potential performance, it's remarkably good (and I have a reasonably heavy right foot).

The car is a lease so I've never been to the dealership it was delivered on a trailer from Inchcape Stockport some 180 miles away from me :D

Again really good consumption.... same question as to SRGTD. What driving mode do you mainly use?

I use individual mode with these settings. I keep DSG in ‘D’ (Normal).

I'm not complaining but I wonder why they ditched the haptic sensors on the steering wheel and went back to conventional buttons
