Folding Mirror Retrofit Comfort Coding

Hello All,

I have followed Ciclo's Guide and successfully installed the mirrors and wiring, but they only on the switch.
When I have tried both codings (2 and 4 Door) in the guide, but my left window doesn't work with them. It will move less than a cm and then stop.
I have tried changing byte 2 bit 1 on my current coding, and this has the same problem.
With my current coding (shown below), the windows work, and they fold on the switch, but do not fold when I hold the lock on the key. Comfort is active in the BCM and the indicators flash after 2 seconds of holding lock on the key.
I purchased the window motors used, and the original coding of 802 was 1400A1, and 801 was 08BC34.

Does anyone have an idea of what I can try?
Are my codings wrong, or do I need different parts?

Folding mirrors by the switch:

Try with:

J386 ... 1400A1
J387 ... 0400A1

Please note that you MUST reset the comfort function with the window switches for the new coding to take effect.

-

I'm afraid your SW WRMs (marked in red, above) does not support AUTO folding mirrors function, I can't guarantee it, it needs to be checked with ETKA.

However...

AUTO folding mirrors function:

Enable Byte2 Bit1 in the coding of both WRMs. In Hexadecimal Byte2 should be A3 in both WRMs.

- The mirrors fold in by long pressing the lock button on the remote control.
- The mirrors will unfold when the ignition switch is turned on.

Again (sorry), it is mandatory to reset the comfort function with the switch of the 2 front windows so that the changes in the coding take effect.

Hi Ciclo

Thank you for your help.
When I use the A1 coding, the left window will only move on a half-press on the switch and won't do anything on a full press.
When I use the A3 coding the left window will only move 1cm at a time.
I can confirm that mine is a RHD 6R

Are there any other codings that I could try?

Is there any way that I can update the SW of my WRM?

The problem is that your driver's WRM (right side) is from 2017, for folding mirrors, but the SW doesn't seem to be for auto folding.
...and, on the other hand your passenger's WRM (left side) is from "2010", the SW doesn't seem to be for auto folding either. Are you absolutely sure that the connector of this WRM has the pins for mirror folding?

The way to code the 2017 right side WRMs and the 2010 left side WRMs is totally different. In 2014, the coding rules for this type of WRMs used in the PQ25 platform and later in the PQ26 were changed. They always had that aura of mystery that VW liked so much.
You should find the autoscan of a 2010 6R made in Japan (RHD) and that had the factory folding mirrors to correctly code your passenger WRM.
I'm serious,... yes, yes, from Japan. I think, but not entirely sure, that the Japanese 6Rs were the only ones that had folding mirrors at that time.

I think someone from Russia found a way to update the SW of the 6R WRMs (they work by LIN, not CAN), but this was a few years ago and I don't remember anything else about it. My friend firegrafik, a user of this forum, knows more about this.

Thank you for the detailed response.

I purchased both wrm from ebay, which is why they are from different years.
I can confirm that the left WRM has the pins. It also folds on the switch with the coding 08BC34, but not with comfort.

The right WRM has the pins and works on the switch with all codings, but not comfort function.

I will use the original coding on my passenger WRM, and look into updating the firmware on both.
Would it be easier if I tried to source a 2014+ passenger WRM?

It is logical to think that the electronic management will be somewhat more compatible if both WRMs are from similar dates, or from 2015 to 2018, or from 2010 to 2014.

In case you are interested, we have spoken extensively in the forum about the SW of 6R WRMs to manage the Auto function for folding mirrors.

I hadn't come across that during my research so thank you.
I will probably try and source new WRM's as I couldn't find any info on flashing them, but now I will know what to look for.
Thank you for all your help, your knowledge if incredible and your polo is an inspiration ❤️ :D
