Should I get my DSG serviced early?

Another post on here reminded me about DSG servicing.
I have a 2020 Polo GTI+ with 20,000 miles on it. I know the regular service schedule for the DSG is every 40K miles but I was wondering if it was worth getting it done sooner considering it's 4 years old? I'd like to keep this car a good few years so am looking to keep everything as well serviced as possible.

It won’t do any harm - being proactive rather than reactive is my preference as far as car maintenance is concerned. There are Golf GTI owners on the Golf forums with the 6 speed DQ250 DSG who’ve had theirs serviced at the sooner of 40k miles or 4 years, even though VW’s official service interval is based on mileage only.

It would probably be worth shopping around on the cost of the DSG service though. The VW dealer I used to use before I sold my GTI+ is currently advertising the price of a DSG oil and filter change at £372; you may find a good independent VW specialist would charge less.

No harm in getting the DSG oil changed earlier than scheduled, shop around as VW dealers (Vertu, Listers, etc) all charge different rates.

This post made me realise I'm at the 40k mark on the GTI and I've not had the DSG serviced... :shock:

Rang round some VW dealerships and have been quoted £490. Not sure if this is good value?

£490 sounds expensive. The VW dealer I used when I had my Polo GTI+ are currently quoting a price of £372 on their website;

Was that just VW dealers? If you’ve not already done so, it would probably be worth trying a few independent VW specialists for quotes. I’ve just done an internet search for South Wales independent VW specialists and the top results returned five with a customer rating of 4.7 or more out of five;

Audi VW specialists, Bridgend

Edit; Just to add to the above, a forum member over on Seatcupra.net forum has just posted re. their DSG service last week at a VW independent specialist. The cost? - £225. Link to the discussion topic on Seatcupra.net forum below; the relevant post is post #10.

You’re very welcome.

Yes, please report back - I’d be interested to hear what independent VW specialists in your part of the world would charge compared to a VW main dealer. I’m sure other forum members would too.

I have 10000 miles on mine, also almost 4 years old, I am not going to do it any time soon, maybe if I can get it done for a reasonable price together with other stuff (like DSG tuning for example)

Zero issues with car or DSG but that is to be expected

Quick update, been quoted £280 from the Audi VW specialists, Bridgend. Google reviews are good so I'm hoping that goes smoothly now.

That’s great; much better than being robbed of £490 by the VW dealer 👍. I know VW dealerships will have lots of expensive overheads, but IMHO it’s difficult to justify charging £210 more than an independent specialist.

Makes the ‘free’ coffee at the VW dealers very expensive…………..

Please provide an update on your experience of using the independent specialist once they’ve done the DSG service on your car.

The guy did have a chuckle on the phone at the £490 price from VW! :lol:

Will keep everyone updated, new tyres this weekend as well, expensive month!

Thanks everyone, general feeling is I’ll probably get it done at the next service.

DSG service done this morning, took the garage just over an hour. Really pleased with the service and cost, 25 minute drive home and the car felt a lot better. Maybe that's a placebo effect, but the gear changes felt a lot smoother and acceleration in sport mode felt better!

I was advised to get it done every 2 years which was interesting, as I assumed every 40,000 miles would be enough.

Thanks for the help on this one SRGTD.
