Power steering failure

Hi guys
I would like your thoughts on this one please, my 2007 9n3 1.4 BUD engined polo has decided that power steering is no longer needed and put on the amber warning lamp in the IC.This a pain in the arms so I need to get this fixed ASAP.
I have scanned the vehicle with a autel I have 3 static faults .
1 in the IC = no coms with pas module
2 in gateway = no coms with pas module
3 in central electrics = no coms with pas module
So I took off the front bumper to access better and checked all connections for the dreaded blue/ green corrosion, nothing there all good.
Next I checked power and ground on the centre connector both present
Next I checked for 12v on the 4 pin connector all good there to, I have 1.5-2volts on the coms lines the 3rd connector just goes to the angle sensor on the rack.
Is my power steering module dead ?
Where do you suggest getting a replacement remanufactured unit? As VW want nearly £700 for a new unit that they have in stock.
Will this need any sort of coding either new or remanufactured ?
