Head Unit Help

Hi, bought a VW Polo Match 67 reg from an auction site and for some reason the original touch screen head unit has been switched out for a standard radio from earlier versions of the car. I was wondering if I could buy any of the screened radios that originally comes with the car (as in any part numbered one from eBay since I don’t know what part number was originally in the car) and will it be a simple plug and play or would it require coding etc? I still have the original head unit it’s just the screen that was switched.

The car has parking sensors front and rear too if that helps anything

If you know the head unit part number you can determine the screen you need...

...use PR codes.

The screens do not need coding, everything important that is related to coding, adaptations, component protection, is in the head unit.

The easiest way to solve it, is to install the original head unit you already have, which will supposedly be coded for the vehicle's equipment (parking sensors, 'etc'), you just need the screen. It is highly likely that you can get a second-hand screen on eBay at reasonable prices.

This will probably be affected by Component Protection.

If the original head unit is installed, there will be no problems with the CP, which is the most reasonable thing to do for the factory equipment of this 6C, ... however, removing (activate) the component protection is a simple matter (VW dealer) if is requested by a new/X head unit.

... we can roughly imagine what the previous owner/user of this 6C did, either for telephone or navigation-related matters. πŸ€”

I understand that, but the OP says there is no original head unit.
But by original head unit, do you mean the exact one fitted to the vehicle or do you mean one with the exact same part number?
Does CP work off part number or some serial number?

@2226, maybe I'm interpreting it incorrectly...

... please help me understand, sometimes I still get stuck on ideas because of the language.

Component protection works with the VIN and serial number of the part.

Ah, my bad. Maybe my english sucks. No idea how I missed that bit of information.

In which case, screen can be swapped out without an issue.

Well, maybe you're not wrong, I think that this matter is open to interpretation.
However, it is always good to have several opinions.πŸ‘Œ

Eyesight has become worse since lockdown from couple years back. That's when I wound up sitting for hours on end in front of a laptop screen. Usually never that long when we were in office.

A couple of years ago I started using glasses to read the small print on the leaflets... and on the other hand, as you get older, you need more light outside (lumens) to see as you did before. I now have industrial-strength LED bulbs in my cave, I guess in 10 years I'll have to buy a whole sun.
... I agree with you, the pandemic was to blame for everything that happens to 'mature' people.πŸ˜†

I like to blame the pandemic and I'm sticking with it.

Slightly different issue for me, I would like to upgrade my radio with something that allows me to link with my phone and has Sat Nav. Ideally I want to also retain my steering wheel controls and parking sensors and car set up. Grateful for any suggestions.
