Can anyone confirm this?
I was told today by a VW dealer I can't purchase a space saver wheel as they do not do one to fit? My Polo does not have a Beats Sub in the boot.
Thanks

When I owned my 2020 Polo GTi+ it had a space saver spare from the factory. On VW’s configurator, it’s possible to add a space saver as an extra cost option when ordering a new GTI. If it’s no longer possible to buy one from your VW dealer as an accessory I’d be quite surprised and it might be worth trying a different dealer.
Be aware it probably won’t be cheap though, in fact it’s likely to be very expensive - much more so than the current price (£255) it costs to spec the space saver + kit when ordering a new GTI. In addition to the space saver itself, you’ll also need;
- the plastic threaded spindle and large plastic ‘bolt’ that secures the space saver in place above the battery in the spare wheel well
- the tool kit and the GTI-specific foam insert that fits around the battery in the spare wheel well to hold the tool kit
there may also be some other parts needed too - e.g. I think the plastic trim panel in the boot nearest to the hatch sill is also different on cars with a space saver spare - it’s a different shape to enable the space saver to fit and be secured in place correctly.
If you do decide to source a suitable space saver from an online site such as eBay, ensure the space saver has the correct bolt pattern for the Polo (5x100), otherwise it won’t physically bolt onto your car’s wheel hub assembly; a space saver from many other VW models won’t fit the Polo as they have a different bolt pattern (usually 5x112).
I seem to remember there are other GTI owning forum members who’ve bought a space saver and the associated other parts; hopefully one of those forum members will read your post and let you know the complete list of parts they bought, the cost, and if they bought from a VW dealer or elsewhere.

Thankfully here in South Africa all assembled VW's come with a space saver spare wheel, cant afford to be stuck on the roadside, too dangerous. That said, it must be possible to fit one retrospectively but like SRTGD said, shop around because VW love marking up extras by a million percent.

I am about to change my 2023 gti ! when i had it (from new ) it didn't have a spare wheel , being very old and set in my ways , I did a lot of research and purchased all the relevant parts, ( wheel with tyre {18"}, jack , jack handle , hold down screw , rear boot trim panel that is shaped to accommodate wheel ) I will remove all these parts from car when it goes so if anyone wants to have some piece of mind in these days of terrible potholes , drop me a message and we can do a deal .

It’s a VW Taigo black edition 1.5 dsg , I have loved the gti ( this was the second one ) the only thing I didn’t like about it is the jiggly ride and tyre noise , especially on the terrible roads in Worcestershire!
So when the man from VW phoned and said he has lots of money to give away I fell for his spiel !!
The car is more befitting a man of my great age .

I’m currently being bombarded with emails by the VW dealer I used to use about their VIP event and the ‘fantastic’ deals they currently have. Unfortunately for the dealer, I won’t be taking them up on any of their special offers……..

.
I’ve not seen many Taigo’s on the road. I might be wrong but isn’t the Tiago a Polo-based small SUV style vehicle - the one with the sloping rear as opposed to the more upright T-Cross SUV (also Polo-based)? With the 1.5 you probably won’t notice too much of a performance deficit in every day use, especially if the roads in your part of the world are as congested as they are where I am.
Enjoy your new car

. Please post up some pictures when you get it.

yes , spot on regarding car ! Polo based so familiar in lots of ways . Taigo has all the kit I enjoyed on the gti but is more "sensible" more economical, cheaper to insure , much big boot and more rear leg room . it will be fine I am sure !
hopefully pick up early March ( 26 plate )
