No DAB stations found. But FM and GPS work fine.

Hi all,

I've searched the forum extensively but found no conslusive answers.

I have a 2015 Polo (6R) with MIB STD2. The FM radio works perfectly, as does the GPS.
However, the DAB radio is deaf, it finds no stations.
On rare occasions it has managed to hear a local station or two for a couple of minutes, but that's it.

I have VCDS. It says:

0012 - Digital Radio Antenna
B1103 11 [00001001] - Short to Ground
Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Priority: 6
Fault Frequency: 254
Reset counter: 95
Mileage: 70742 km
Date: 2020.12.15
Time: 19:12:59

Voltage terminal 30: 14.7 V
Status of digital radio antenna 1-Antenna current: 0 mA
Status of digital radio antenna 1-Connection between radio and antenna amplifier: electrically OK
Status of digital radio antenna 1-Connection between antenna amplifier and antenna: electrically OK
Status of digital radio antenna 1-DAB_Bit_Error_Rate_FIC: 0.000000
Status of digital radio antenna 1-DAB_Bit_Error_Rate_MSC: 0.000000

Had a look at the antenna from the inside, it looks OK, no signs of water ingress or any other problem.

Should I be looking for a new antenna?
Any pointers?

Thanks in advance,

This may be the case but that fault code appears very often on polos, my 2015 GTI has had this
B126D13 and B110311 static codes from day one out of the factory with zero effect on DAB reception.
Its my understanding this is to do with the unused terminal on the amp base ? Someone more knowledgeable could confirm or deny this theory.

Maybe what I did when I replaced a non DAB system with a DAB system in my 2011 Audi S4 could help you pin point the root cause of your problem.

Initially after buying a used DAB "radio" to replace the non DAB original factory, to prove that this used system worked before spending money on getting the "component protection" removed, I bought a cheap "screen DAB powered aerial with preamp" from Halfords, I just plugged it into that new system without connecting any power to that DAM aerial's built in preamp, and draped it over the passenger seat back - and got very good DAB reception from that used but "protected" system, so that gave me confidence to get the component protection removed, then buy and fit a DAB preamp and lead.

Just a thought, before you rip things apart any more.
