Bodge a broken boot lock

Hello,

My 2010 polo is on its last legs, everything is breaking so I'm just running it until it finally gives up the ghost. A while ago the boot lock stopped working. At first it didn't lock, but would close, and that was great for me as I could still use it. But now it's stuck locked and the only way to unlock it is with a screwdriver from the inside. Not ideal with an isofix car seat to have to remove, and put the seats down to get to it. The quote to fix it was triple what the cars worth, and as it's literally going to die any day now I don't want to waste the money. BUT it's so annoying not being able to use the boot, especially with kids and all their stuff, as well as having to clear my late mother's house of a lifetime of possessions.

Is there a way I can permanently unlock it, but it still catch closed?

Just for info, the boot doesn't open with a key, it's the vw logo lever type. No remote locking either, just manual with the key in the front doors (well one of them, the other one is now broken!)

Any help much appreciated
