Mk5 6c replacement drivers lock orientation

Bit of a weird one, the drivers side lock of the Mrs new Polo was mangled so we got a replacement made from VW to match the existing key.
The key entrance slide is positioned horizontally. I've only ever seen them vertical. The one it's replacing was vertical.
Is this a new way the make them or did they screw up?
Any concerns here if kept horizontal about water ingress or elemental degradation in the long term?
