hi,
i have a 1.2 65bhp 03reg polo and i am wanting to get a new engine for it but am unsure what can fit in the new polo shapes?
what engines are there? e.g.vr6, g60, etc..
how easy it is to install? e.g.extra parts, fittings, etc..
and what kind of prices am i looking at for each type of engine?
and what are the prices to get them installed?
this is roughly of course
also when the engine is installed does it run like it did in the original car it was taking from?
or does it run alot more rough?
oh 1 other thing what price am i looking at for insurance?
i mean what are other people paying?
thanks for your help

Your question is QUITE broad mate. Unfortunately I can't really help you at the moment.
But just for your interest, I think I have seen a 1.8T in a Polo before, not too sure from what car it was from though. But I'm sure it was that engine in the Polo 9N.
I would love that.

1.8T is the in thing at the moment.
Theses come from loads of differnt cars. Golf GTI, Adui A3, Audi S3 and the TT and i'm sure there are many more the engine can come from.
I've always like the thought of putting the VR6 engine in it but if i ever did it it'd probably be the 1.8T.

i know audi are made by vw but can an audi engine fit in a polo?
and when people talk about "1.8T" is that a turbo or is it the 1.8 supercharged version?

is there a general name for the 1.8T?
e.g. vr6, g60, etc...

The general name is 1.8T and yeah i'd say audi engines can fit because i'm sure there's a polo on polo9n that has an audi 1.8T in it.

Sadly when you get in to more detail i don't know anything, i'm pretty sure in one way or another thier all slightly different, again i really don't know.
I'd try asking in the "Power Train" section as well as more ppl would see the post then.

1.8T is meant by the Turbo version, not supercharged.
And as SiDaBa mentioned, 1.8T is the standard common name and I would definately go for a Turbo. Even though I love the VR6 sound, BUT you can change a more powerful turbo if you have the cash and you can get an intercooler and a Blow Off Valve. Sweet...

The car is designed for engines that do not exceed 130 bhp.
I think that after a motorswap (1.8 T) you'll end up with a car doing 140 mph and 0-60 in 7 sec's.
But, you'll still have a car that has a short-wheelbase (not ideal for high speeds), a subframe that will need strenghtening, even more understeer because the engine is heavier, brakes that are not suited for the job ($$$), the need to do some serious suspension-mods and last but not least a big part of the money you spend will be gone when selling the car.
I think it's not wise to spend so much money on a car that is just not suited for the job.
Better keep the money in the pocket and spend it on a car that is made for fast driving or buy another fun-car.

1.8T has been done in Germany - so we know it fits. It's also availabe in the Ibiza FR and Cupra, so mounts should now be available for the chassis.
But - have you even thought about the insurance -- best to find out about that first.
You could always give JBS a call if you want a "feel" for the scope of the work. It's never a straight engine swap though. You've got to think about brakes, suspension, ECU, instruments, loom.
Also think carefully about what the car would be worth after you've done the conversion. It won't be anywhere near what you paid for it. So unless you're planning to hold onto the car until it falls apart from old age, this really isn't a good option from a financial point of view.
Deek.

hi,
i have been doing a did of research and i am looking at getting a tt quattro engine(225bhp) which including everything is £1500 excluding labour so it is an alright price, as i haev expecting more.
the insurance was a big surprise to me cause to get me fully comp including alloys, fully suspension, fully exhaust system with tinted windows it came to £1700 but that was with 1 years no claims
so overall i will be getting the conversion done as it is expensive but the performance gain is worth it

lol thats canny freaky! anyways if u aint been in a standard 1.8T car my bro has one, come round mine with nasser nd he'l probly take u out in it.
just cos i know gilly at veedubs has his all chipped etc so its alot quicker than what you'd get off a standard engine
and can u pm me nas's new number? i tried 2 ring him when i saw him yesterday, but he old number dont work and i aint seen him in the shop much either. cheers!
