How long are your wheel bolts? I Have bought a set of bolts, and had them cut down to size. I fitted these bolts and wheels with no problem on the front, but on the back, the bolts are fouling the handbrake mechanism.

If anyone could tell me the length of the thread from the base of the taper on their bolts, that would be very helpful.

There is a simple rule of thumb thats never let me down

7 full turns is the minimum you need in the hub for a good secure fixing

Any less and you run the risk of ripping out the thread and putting excessive loading on the fixing

Any more than 9 and well I guess you've just found out what can happen

So to establish the length required - fit a wheel - note the number of turns from start to fully home if more than seven - nine - use the excess number of turns to work out how much to cut of the length of the bolt.

I would - (though it is more expensive) cut all 16 bolts down to the same length even tho they don't foul on the fronts just in case you ever muddle them up

Is that 7 turns including the additional turns with the grunts and groans to tighten them fully, or 7 to the point where they start becoming harder to turn? I was guestimating that the bolts are 5mm too long, but will definately give this method a go, and was definately gonna get the front lopped down too.

Ask this question in the tech section on porka. Theres a few guys I know whove got them wheels and they dont post on here. You definately need longer bolts though

Karl, keep bugging me on MSN and I'll try to dig out the size from my locking wheel bolt set.

Sorry M8 missed this post - to answer your question

The amount turns required to go from tight to F tight is three fifths of F all

BTW - you don't have to do them up F tight - there is a torque setting in Haynes and thats the target

Yeah, 110Nm it is, which isnt very tight at all really. Although having a huge torque wrench may have given me a skewed perspective.

Haynes advises about 90 for me, which involves me standing on the handle of the torque wrench and doing a little jig up and down until it clicks
