No that isn't true. I've got an aftermarket Alpine head-unit and it works fine and I've swapped my aerial for a shorter one.

The plug inside the dash for the aerial is a standard one so you don't need any adaptors as such. It will work.

Think I'm right in saying you'll get better reception with an adaptor. Your 9n has an amplified antenna and needs to be powered up. The VW Beta, Gamma etc. headunits do this directly, but I think few aftermarket headunits do too(?)... hence the need for an adaptor (which nicks power from the ISO block on the aftermarket headunit).

It's autoleads part PC5-52 and about a tenner from Halfords (could always return it if you don't notice any difference ).

The adaptor isn't for connecting different heads/connections. The adaptor is to amplify the aerial on the 9n.

I have one installed on my 9n and reception is very very good... in fact, I never knew there where so many radio stations avaliable in my area .

I wouldn't believe anything Halfords have to say, they told me I needed 13cm rear speakers :?

is it 16cm for the rear doors?

It's 16.5 (6.5") for the front and the rear.
You will need to buy the speaker adapters to fit on the doors, these can be found at http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/default ... 92_319_637.
I have not tested these yet but will be buying very soon.

I don't see why not.
Why opt for the smaller speakers when you can have the 16.5cm? :?

i dont want to touch the front 1s (ie skint) so whats the point having amazing rear speakers and standard fronts? :P

But that's kinda what I'm thinking about right now! :P 'cos I want some sound from the back.

But really strangely enough, the bog standard VW 'Beta' components are still lasting very welll with my current system. It's pumping 60W to each channel, but it's still going very well up to around Volume18 (Alpine head-unit) and still sounds very good.

But then I did tune it quite a bit with the X-over, etc. :P Quite good quality s**t. Not toooo much mid-range though. But at least the high-range (tweeter) kinda works.
