Re-mapping the fuel management system???

Can anyone help me?? My mk4 1.6 8v keeps spluttering on idle tick over not all the time and not always when she is cold, has anyone ever had this problem before??? and whats the best way to sort it out, ive heard that if i get the fuel sytem checked this may sort it!!!
