Handbrake cable

I'm having some handbrake cable issues, I can't work out how to run the cables through the compensator bar where the front cable meets the nearside rear brake cable. Can anyone either tell me how to run the cables, or could someone with a mk3 haynes tell me how it says to run the cable (mk2 haynes only covers the pre-86 type of handbrake, very helpfully acknowledges that there was a later type but doesn't say how to set it up..)? It'd be much appreciated, at the moment it just falls apart all the time and I just can't work out what I've done wrong...

Ah, never mind, fixed it now

I'd just fitted the bar upside down...
