Armour door plate issues

I have fitted these door plates and had a few probs. I know it's because there is a slight recess in the doos on the polo that isn't there on the golf.
I got around it by taking the waterproof seal off and it's been working fine.
Now I've come to replace one of the door handles as the trigger was knackered but with the handles I've got I can lock the car but not unlock it.
I'm guessing it's because the pin on the end of the barrel is too short and is missing the latch on the inside of the door.
Anyone else had problems with this?? and how have you fixed it? I've seen plenty of polo's with door plates.
Is there a plate made just for the polo?
Should I get different types of handles?
Has anyone got any close up picks of theirs?
It all started because someone had broken into the car when the previous owner had it, they didn't do a good job of fixing it and the door has slightly rusted under the handle, So I thought get rid of the rust, protect the metal and get some plates to cover up
but it's starting to get on my arse now.
Thanks,
James.
