Removing rear trim in a 3door

Does anybody know how to remove the rear trim (side panels) of a 3 door 6N polo. I was thinking of mounting an amp in there. Is there enough space behind there?

Hi Josh,

Welcome to the forum.

There's actually quite a lot of room behind them, but there's a vertical bracket as well that holds the panels in place. You'll need to fit the amp right behind that I'd imagine.

I guess it also depends on the size of the amps...

The panels are clipped and screwed in place, you'll see the screws (big flat plastic ones) when you fold down the rear bench and/or remove the rear seats. There's another screw down below near the belt runner. Other than that, it's clipped. You'll break them by the way. I always do. Start at the bottom and gently pull towards you. Then, try to slide the panel upwards. Hope that makes sense, but in any case, take your time and be careful.

Hi, thank very much. That makes total sense after having a look in the car. I'm concerned about these clips that will inevitably break. Will I need to buy new ones every time I want to take the panel off to access the amp or is there a work around - a few sticky pads or something maybe!

Don't worry too much about the clips- the main thing the panel is held in place with is the top edge along the window and the edge down the door jamb. I believe the clips are glued in place so replacing them is hard.

I've just had another look. Do I have to remove the solid thing which the rear chairs clip back onto. They're up the top corner nearest the boot.
Also, so you're saying that the panels will be held in place nicely without any of the clips?

Ah yes, good point - you do need to remove the rear bench bracket thingie. Forgot about that one, sorry.

The panels do sit ok without all the clips but try to retain as many of them as you can, they are there for a reason
