1.4 8v Gearbox

Does anyone know what other cars i could get a gearbox from that would be suitable for a 1.4 8v 6n2.
examples: Polo (various makes) other VW's or maybee even something from a mk5 but different size engine.

Think that the final drive ratio and stuff are all a bit different. Optimum would be the one for the car with the same size wheels and engine output. Don't assume that the higher geared boxes will make it go faster, it won't. Also some GTI Boxes can be problematic at the best of times.

Just got a call from the garage, Thats it fixed now and has the proper gearbox in it. and a new Clutch

how much was the new clutch in total?
why did you get a new one? making wierd noise or what?

Cost me £300 all in for gearbox and clutch but thats cos its my GF's cousin that owns the garage.
I think he said the clutch was about £61 for a good one, but there was an alternative for £50 which he didnt rate to well.
We had to change it cos it was making funny noises and sometimes hard to get into gear and with the clutch knackered i think thats what caused the gearbox to go. We only just got the gearbox reconditioned earlier this year, it was by a garage whom i would never go back to for several different reasons but thats another story.
Anyway we had done more than 10,000 miles so the warrenty was out the window, But i dont think they done a good job in the first place.
