It'll automatically pay in whatever currency the auction was in, if you just click the Pay Now button in ebay and follow it through.

You can only pay by paypal if the seller allows it. Not all sellers allow paypal, especially in Germany.
It will say at the bottom of the listing what payment methods are acceptable.

Well, if the auction's in pounds then the seller will accept payment in pounds, if not then you'll just be able to type the final amount into paypal in euros.

just click on the "pay for this item" link on the auction page once you have won it.
Although beware, paypal will take a small amount of money out so your seller could end up thinking they're being ripped off. You could do with getting in touch with Paypal & finding out how much they charge for the amount you're spending. Then add that on or see if the seller is willing to meet you in the middle. I paid for something the other week from Germany that came to £40. I think Paypal took about 2 or 3 pounds for it.

You can find out how much PayPal's going to charge the seller
HERE.
Here's the link for
help sending money in a different currency.
I buy stuff abroad on eBay all the time and I always pay in the local currency of the seller, in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and throughout Europe. People in other countries (China/HK/Taiwan, South Africa, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, even Malta) will usually accept funds in either US Dollars ou Euros.
