Just got in my car and the passenger side electric window doesn't seem to be working, just a click when you press the switch, the drivers side is fine, had exactly the same problem with my mk4 polo just before i got rid of it, never did find out what was wrong. Can anybody give me any ideas
cheers

Sounds like the switch may have gone mate. You have the same symptoms as my GTi had when my driver's side leccy window failed

It doesn't work when you use the switch on the drivers side either, if it's the switch on the passenger side door thats broke i would have thought it would still work from the switch on the drivers side door, there is just a clicking sound when you press either switch, and also the lights dim? Is it possible the motor could be jammed?
Never have all these problems with my old Scirocco's!!
cheers

sounds like the motors had it, mine did this but when the window was down! had it repaird under the warrenty, you could take the door card of and have a look, you could get the part new or perhaps from a breakers to get it cheaper?

I had my window motor done under warranty (the other window to the one that had a dodgy switch

) and the bill came to £200

thankfully VW paid for that one!

Cheers mate, i think i'll have to take the panel off and have a mess about with the motor if i can get to it? exactly the same thing happened to my mk4 which is basically the same car, the passenger side window just stopped working, then it would start again, then it would stop, when it did work again it was fine, didn't go slow or anything like what you would expect if the motor was on its way out, took the door panel off but it was very hard to get to the motor to do anything, checked the switches and the wiring and everything was ok, never did find out what it was!
I'm going off these newer VW's
cheers

Perhaps your car was cold? My missus won't wind the window down when she's cold either. Women....

Actually, it sounds to me like it is just some friction somewhere. They use some method (current sensing?) to detect obstructions and fingers - I think that it might just need a bit of lube like he says.
Another neat trick, is wait for some dry weather and then use Mr Sheen on your window. You can also put it in the seals too. It makes as free as it was when it was new.
I had a mate with a golf that had window trouble, but his door wasn't straight!
