Hi
I am not sure about the headlights
The suspension was the same on late mk1's, mk2's and mk3's not mk4's or later as they had wishbones.
The interiors vary in colour but a mk3 interior will fit with some minor modifications to doorcards.

As Keel says, Mark1/2/3 suspension is pretty similar and the kits are quite readily available (Gmax, FK, Venom's own).
The interiors are interchangable between Mark2 and 3, and Coupe interiors will fit in Hatches and vice versa. The only thing that is significantly different is the parcel shelf on Coupes and Hatches.

anyone know if its the same as mki golfs? i have a lowering kit for one.....
cheers

Mk3 doorcards aren't much different, they just cover the whole door right up to the window instead of just a panel in the middle of the door like the mk2 cards - a set of them is on my list of things to obtain for my car

I don't know how much modification is required for them, but I can't see it being very major as they're just the same layout as far as door handles etc go, should think it's just a case of drilling a screw hole or two..
Suspension is the same across the mk2 range including derby/classic.. not sure if it's the same as mk1 golf stuff, but I have a feeling it is.. don't take my word on it though

you have to crush the bit between the dashboard and the door otherwise the doors wont close. You might need mk3 window rubbers as well to make it look right.
Ive got some grey GT doorcards I dont want GC

Hey while were on the subject, did you fit mk1 golf doorpockets with speaker fixings in them? What were they like to fit? (im sure I heard you say that you had speakers in the doors

I've got speakers in the doors, but with home made mountings - not exactly ideal, and I'd like to try to find a better way of mounting front speakers really.
Would the mk3 cards fit without any problems if I had a mk3 dashboard? I assume it's the width of the mk2 dash that causes the problems with the end of the cards? Mk3 dashboard has been on my list of modifications for quite a while, could get it all done in one go, then I'd have somewhere to mount front speakers as well..
This is how my speakers are currently mounted. Not a very clear picture I'm afraid, and you may need to turn the brightness up on your monitor to see it properly

You can get halogen bulbs with the correct fitting to take the place of the 410s. Your friendly local been-there-forever spares shop should be able to help but I wouldn't rate your chances at Halfords or similar.

Yeah its the width of the dashboard that causes the problems. theres a bit of re-wiring to be done though when you put a mk3 dash in (no idea what exactly) I prefer the mk2 dash anyway, (esp the clocks) but two speakers are better than one.

Yeah, I prefer the mk2 clocks but I prefer the rest of the mk3 dash. Somehow it seems like they actually bothered designing the mk3 dash, the mk2 just looks like someone got a lump of plastic that happened to fit and drilled some holes for switches into it..
I think the rewiring for the mk3 dash basically consists of unplugging the mk2 interior looms and plugging mk3 looms in their place, although someone please correct me if I'm wrong there. Anyway, it's not as if there's much electronics in the old polos, can't be that much work

How big are the speaker holes in mk1 Golf door pockets?
I have just provisionally bought a full G40 interior and i was told you need to cut a bit off the top of the front doorcards and also need to cut a notch out of the rear ones at the back to get em to fit. You will also need the interior doorhandles ect off a mk3.
Gareth what do you mean by "crush" the doorcard?

I know I just told you on msn but perhaps I should re-iterate:
when I say crush the doorcard I mean the bit that goes inbetween the dashboard and the door is too thick so the doors wont close properly as the mk2 dash is wider than the mk3 one. As for the speakers in the door pockets id imagine theyre either 4 or 5.25"

Right
Actually looked at the car now
Heres the script.
To answer another question btw, mki doorpods accept 6x4 speakers from instant memory..
back to the polo, actully like i say looked at the car and found the trackrods to be a basically pishy vauxhall design so therefore completely different design to golf suspension.
damn
ah well, more the reason to get coilovers.
I think ill retrim the vinyl on the door cards instead of swap them, as i think the mk2 cards hold a more old skool cool value and i love the mk2 dash. centre speaker position is perfect for some tweeters, ill have to look at where i can for the woofers now
incidently, im away to aquire some 13" ATS classics for the ol girl, so i think coilovers is a must anyways
Anyone know if gear selector units are still available for the mk2 polo/derby ? as mine appears to be shagged. i can work it but the missus finds 1st and reverse a lil close for comfort
Cheers again

I'm sure they are still available, ask martyn in his section down the bottom of the forum. I think I may need one soon, as I think mine might be causing one of the many rattles I've recently encountered. Wouldn't be suprised, as I nicked it from a 135,000 mile coupe s originally..
Mk1 doorpods are indeed 6x4" thinking about it, same size as the mk2 dash pod.

yer, i love the MK2 dash, perfereit to the MK3,
as for speakers in the front doors, it is possible to make pockets, out of MDF, or what eva, you jus need to have a bit of patients and a creative mind! haha
