OK yesterday i brought a new alpine CDA-9833 HU.
Had it all wired up and it worked, but my friend turned the sound up and it cut off, and won't work again since, i checked a few fuses in the car, but couldnt find a broken one, i have a VW Polo 1.4 SE 2000/W Reg, i also checked the little fuse box on the HU it seems fine aswell. The old Gamma Radio come out and goes back in and works properly aswell so i dont know why its not working. It doesn't seem as if the HU has blown or something i dont know.
The HU wasn't wired up to the car battery yet, but it was working, i dont know how to get it working anyone have any ideas on what i can do?
Thanks

do u mean the Alpine HU wont work wifout the keys in the ignition?
The HU wasn't wired up to the car battery yet,

well the man in the shop, told me you would need to wire it to the car battery and it won't cut out when you turn it up high.
I haven't got the Adaptor kit from Halfords, all the wires plugged in and it worked. Yeah it doesn't work with the ignition off.
Im sorry i dont have a clue about cars really, i jus wanna get this fixed, its new years i need some music!!

basically i jus dont understand if it worked already without the halfords adaptor, why will it not work again?

yeah, the ISO alpine connection plugs into the car's connector but the
YELLOW and
RED wires on the alpine side are in the wrong pins ( if u know what i mean) and the ISO connector from halfords will solve this.
BTW im using the halfords connector but still doesnt switch on without keys in they igniiton. the keys have to be in stage 2 (i think, the 1 b4 the engine starts) and then keys can be "switched off" but dont remove from the key slot (cant think of name here)
hope this helps
Cheers

it will work with they keys in, but as soon as the keys are taken out, the memory/bass settings etc will be lost.

Thanks for the help, i shall go Halfords, gonna have to wait til 2moro, unless its open today, haha i wish!
But saying that, you said it will work with the keys in but when you take them out it won't work, it doesn't work at all with the keys in or out when its all wired up. Or did you mean once i get the Halforda Adaptor it'll be that way?

youre welcome!
for me anyway WITH the halfords adapter
1. wont work without keys out
2. works with keys in except they have to be in "stage 2" (1 b4 engine starts)
3. i dont lose memory settings etc..
btw, it will work just now wit the keys IN
and to put u out your misery

Thanks you been a great help.
Halfords was open so i managed to get the adaptor, plugged it together and bam it works.
BTW, mine works with the keys in or out, i jump out jus to go in the petrol station or something and it'll still play if i take the key out.
I love the alpine set, i'd recommend it to anyone lookin for a nice head unit.

I thought the Alpines had to have a separate feed for the power supply - direct from the battery with quite a thick wire.
A harness wouldn't give this would it? it would have to use the current power supply which might not suit the Alpine's draw of current. I think it's the 60W Alpines that need this - mine did.

hi
I dont know if you want it to do this but i found it really annoying cos i kept leaving it on when i left the car!
I had an unrelated electrical problem with my car, so I took it to vw and they fixed my problem, but as an aside told me that they'd found that the halfords adaptor to my pioneer unit was wired up wrong!
they sorted it out for me, and i'm guessing that the yellow and red wires were going into the same terminal, so giving a permanent feed from the battery instead of a switched live that comes from the ignition switch.
don't know if thats any use to you but I thought I'd mention it!!

Mine is an 9835R and I don't need to have a cable directly from the battery. It's plugged in directly to the VW wiring harness. But I had to switch the power suply wires because VW has those two wires in the wrong places.

Beside that I had to connect the orange wire that came with the HU to the light wire from the VW wh for the auto dimming featura =)
