my car was broken into on new years eve, they smashed the front side window and had my stereo, sub and amp! great end to 2004 :(
suprisingly the alarm didnt go off, they must have jumped in from the front window and moved along to the back to unscrew the amp and remove the sub as well. shouldnt the movement have triggered the alarm? i have the sport model with the remote alarm!

the motion sensors shouldve detected that!
that is unless u activated the internal thing (can't remember what its called-basically that switch at the bottom of the door pillar, which lets u leave someone/a pet/whatever in the car, but protect from outside entry)?
im guessing if you didnt activate that, and it turns out the alarms faulty, you should go back to vw and they should sort you out, rather than you having to make a claim on your own insurance and losing your 'no-claims'?

ive gotta 'sport' aswell, and i got my sister to get in and jump about etc when the alarm was on and with the internal overrride thing on, and it seemed to work fine... so they do normally function alrite!
hope thats helpful.

Gutted for you mate,

I haven't had any one break into my car fortunaltly *touches wood* your right though the alarm 'should' have been triggered when they broke the window. Are you sure the alarm didn't go off? I mean would you have heard it? It could have gone off but no-one noticed/bothered.

Don't let them get you down though!

Someone noticed that switch in my car the other day and I didn't have a clue wot it was! Thanks I'm gonna have to check that in the morning!

what a way to end 2004.
the alarm should go off.
to test if the alarm is working, leave the front window open and then use ur remote alarm to lock the car (as u normally wuld) and after 30secs put your arms into the car's interior and shuld trigger alarm. if this fails, then i wuld go to VW and sort them out. :x

another tip, i know you have tints, so it think its worth the extra cash to get laminated windows,

Hope this helps
Aaron

as for interior sensing, i shut a wasp in my car once and it set it off, its pretty sensitive!

Ah, that sucks :(
I don't know if it'll be the same, but on my dad's car if you lock it on the key it'll alarm the doors and the starter motor and will immobilise the engine but not the internal sensors. To alarm the sensors inside the car you have to lock it with the remote blipper thingey. I don't know if it's the same on VW's, and it might be irrelevant anyway, but just a thought..

cheers guys.
juss tested it out, i pressed the lil button on the door and it didnt make a difference. also if i sit inside the car and lock it with the remote, and giv it 30 seconds then try to start the engine, the alarm bleeps for 2 seconds and then the car starts up :o is that how it should be.
oh an if it is a problem with the alarm, u think i can hold vw responsible and claim the stolen items from them?

deffo sounds like a faulty alarm/immobiliser system! deffo get on the blower to VW and tell your insurance ocmpany to cancel your claim!
