6N - Passat W8 Domelight mod

Here’s a quick how-to (well maybe not so quick) on the W8 dome-light mod, intended for VW Polo’s from 1994 – 1999 (2001). As a disclaimer: Don’t blame me if something is wrong, always check all the part numbers before letting them order the parts, think three times before cutting, etcetera. Ok?
Download the printer-friendly PDF file.
Good luck.

Again, Thanks for the info!
(Moved from MK4 to DIY)
Are these photos of the light installed in your car?
If so, is that an auto-dimming rear view mirror? ? ?
I think I might do this mod, as it looks really cool!
Any chance of some more detailed pics of the gap you talk about at the end of your post?
For 30€ I'ts a great mod!

Again, I'm sorry to have posted this in the wrong forum.
The photos that show the autodimming mirror are not of my car, the guy that took those shots won't tell anyone how he's done that. It's the OEM Vag rainsensor/autodimming mirror hooked up to the old Mk4 electronics.
The gap is noticable, but it doesn't bother me that much, if possible I'll try to get a better shot of it. It's about 1- 2 mm wide. The last photo shows it well.

If it's a Mk4: defintely, no difference at all. Mk5: Uhmm... Josh? Polo2k? Dunno really, but I think there isn't much difference.

Allrightie then. Take your time hacking the hole in the roofliner, precision goes before speed on this one. Good luck.

I'm still trying to figure out how to fill the gap around the light. It's not that annoying but just for neatness, a solution to the little gap is welcome. If you come across a helpful hint...

The lights will suit your car even better, as the only red lights on my car (interior) are the ones I added... Don't GTI's have red interior lighting? I know they do on a Mk4, but it could be different.

Have you done this mod yet?
I want to do it, but I am very reluctant to start cutting into my roof lining!

I've just ordered the parts... They're coming over from Germany!
Just to let you know, the Part number for the actual light unit listed above is for grey. The part number is different for a beige light (I'll let you know once I have my light!)
Speedlaw, just out of interest, just how much of the roof lining do you have to cut???
Price for all the bits: £22.90 + VAT (17.5%) - Club GTi Discount (10%)
Not bad!
