OK, so the idea of streaming mp3s over the net isn't exactly new, but I've *never* seen a solution as elegant as this one.

Basically, it goes like this. You've probably seen this rather elegant device before:

But did you realise you can download the streaming software that sits behind it for free:

It will quite happily stream raw mp3 into anything (e.g. iTunes, Winamp, etc.). Album artwork will be recognised, if you've got it. It's just the most elegant solution I've seen for this. Hugely customisable -- will even transmit its interface as xml for integration into your own apps, if you want! Five minutes to get it up and running. Ticks all the boxes for me!

no, no, and i have an idea of what you're on about but could you explain it just a little more extensively and simply for me? not getting great clues from the website.

its a thing where you somehow send your mp3s to another network machine using one of those programs, queing them up using a HTML page frontend?

It's basically just a *really* elegant server that will stream playlists of mps to any ip address, although on port 9000 - haven't found a config option for that yet.

The thing that makes it so good is the web interface - the screen's split into two sides. The left side is used for browsing for tracks, while the right side shows the current playlist and what's playing.

The design of the interface is really good and just so elegant. It just works. Like all good technology should.

The only downside I've found so far is the memory footprint - it chews up between 45 to 50mb on my system, so that's not too great. But it will be going on my media server, once I finally get it sorted out.

Setup is really straight forward - I can only recommend you just download it and have a play.
