So, you'd expect this to be a write-off, right?

They have welded a new roof on?
I thought that was a polo until I saw the back end. That's nuts.
This made me laugh, I dont know why.
Can you imagine trying to get that back on the road over here?
And selling it on? 'slight damage, been repaired. not recorded...' ebay.
James.

yep, by the looks of it.
sounds dodgy, but its not really. afterall, the car was welded together in the first place. aslong as its done properly it should be ok i would think

yeah I've got to agree its about the quality of the work done rebuilding a car...
.. like a few years ago there was a TV programme on about cut and shuts and they crash tested a cut and shut escort convertible. and it disintergrated, but that was unfair as they never tested a "good" car which may well have been as bad after 10+ years of rusting away.

Actually pettsy it's not.......
I don't want to p*** on anyones matches but I'm climbing onto me soap box now
here is a couple of facts
- a car is made up of pressed steel sections welded and bonded together
- If you cut one of the sections and replace just that bit you loose the strength built in by having one large section (you lose the crumple effect too)
- If you try to distort a welded bit of metal the metal will break before the weld (everyone will say that weld is therefore stronger and it's safe)
- what has actually happened is the metal beside the weld has been weaked by the weld (it is NOT as strong as the orginal steel pressing)
Welding repairs can be safe but joining two cars together (cut and shut) isn't one of those cases
The only way to correctly repair a car damaged like this is to re-shell the car
I'll get off me soap box now
