Just thinking away here to myself...

Any suggestions on what profile of 'cam' i should run in a 3F engine?

I plan to have some kind of 'stage' head (allthough not sure what 1,2 or 3) & would like to know what profile 'schrick' camshaft i should be running... & most importantly... where can i buy one from using a switch card online plz?

Do schrick also do adjustable verniers aswell?

If not... what would you reccomend (manufacturer) ?

Cheers.
Pete

I want good torque with good BHP aswell

Well, Schrick do three types of cam for the polo that can be used in the 3F. It all depends on how far you are modifying the head (big valves or not) and what amount of top end or torque you wan't.

They do the follwing profiles; 264/260, 268 and 268/264. Each have different lifts and valve timing which is worth noting. The split duration ones will let the inlet valves stay open longer.

Deciding which one to go for is tricky and something I've thought about quite a few times.

They don't make adjustable vernier pullies, some german tuning companies do but make sure you get the one with the right tooth profile.

Thanx for the input.

My knowledge of understanding the various profiles of camshafts lobes isnt as good as i would like it to be, lol.

I understand what you are saying about the degress, but to apply that to the real world...?

for example...

Could it be described as thus...

The longer the inlet stays open vs the exhaust, does this achieve more BHP or/& torque?

The shorter the inlet stays open vs the exhaust, does this achieve more BHP or/& torque?

I need to understand them more to help make an informed choice

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

Cheers.

You won't know in real world terms until you try one. Thats why it's a tough choice. It's never clear cut which profiles will do what until you have experimented.
If you are getting a head done with standard size valves, then maybe a 264/260 or 268 would be suitable. I think the 264/260 will be more torquey low down to mid, suitable if you aren't going too mad with mods. If you are increasing the rev limit and tuning more for top end try the 268.

In fact, some German tuning companies claim 80PS from a K&N style panel filter; cam; and GT inlet on an NZ engine.

wouldn't you loose torque with the GT inlet though?

my wifes yellow mk2 classic had
nz engine,
kn panel filter,
piper 272 fast road cam,
gt inlet manifold,
hybrid freeflow exhaust,
it recorded 81 bhp at well lane turbo centre,
on a g40 rolling road day.

with this cam business, is it a matter of just putting it in there? Or is there other things to do too?

i've never changed/seen one changed but i would've thought it's a case of changing the cam and checking/setting the timing .there may be more to it than that,i'm sure someone in the know will be along soon
