ach, i know someone's from.... eh... starts with a C... i ended up there by accident which is what got me thinking. Near where that northern (JBS?) rollers day was. Chesterfield? anyone here from chesterfield or somewhere that sounds like it? over the hill from Two Dales and gullivers kingdom etc?
dunno why i keep thinking you are metzy

... possibly that your town has a longish similar name... rotheringhamfield ... hehe
(man, thats one screwed up memory i have right there... hyup)
Slack hill? I dunno.. went up somewhere near there probably. Is it the one that has a nice big "DANGEROUS HILL - LIGHT VEHICLES ONLY" at one end of it, that I only saw when turning round to go back?
Think i went pretty much everywhere round matlock, one-half lost, one-half pretending to be a latterday cross between edmund hilary and captain scott

Ended up almost doing a trek up a 6ft wide so-called road between precariously perched houses ("not suitable for motor vehicles", "residents access only" etc) but bottled out when I ended up on a hairpin that seemingly needed a 3-point turn to get round and canted the car at like a 45 degree angle. Backed down to the nearest pseudo-driveway and turned round instead. God himself only knows how the Astra I saw parked further up got there, as I know the turning circle is at least a metre more, now...
Not too put out by the 50 limits myself, as ive commented in another thread. Maybe its just because it was night-time, wet, and i was chilled out, but i sure didn't feel like i would have done more than about 55 along the 50 routes i found even if it was the days of no-speed-limit-at-all..!
Mind that i didnt really go *that* far so it's probably a very unrepresentative sample if the 50 limits across the rest of the country are anything to go by - the A5 for example, and several around the M6 Toll which appear to be for no reason other than to encourage you onto that road (which seriously, if you took a person from germany, gave them a kilometres speed gun and a set of glasses which made them see things right-left reversed, you wouldnt be able to convince was under a 110kmh-or-thereabouts limit --- more like 150k / 90mph)

i've driven through derbyshire a good few times (theres a skate shop between derby itself and matlock called rollersnakes, its mint)
anyways
the 50mph roads do your nut in
the over speed camering does your nut in
the use of those front facing speec cameras does your nut in
and glossup has green front facing speed cameras hidden in bushes
the heights of abraham and the blue john/speedwell caverns are mint
i felt the 50mph thing was annoying, in lancashire those roads would be 60mph for sure
the 50 seemed to cause the people on the roads to drive at 35-40 and slow right down for the cameras (i drive them during the days)
as soon as you hit the m67 on the way back to manchester its like pedal to the floor and hoof it as fast as you can just cos you can to get other the overly forced slow down methods of driving back from derby
(there is a better route back to manc from derby, drive to nottingham and find whatever road heads for chester, then dont go to chester and go north later on)

tried that ("hell for leather to get over it") the day after, but dumbly whilst going up over the damn m62, sitting for about fifteen miles with the throttle buried wondering if i'd finally knackered the motor for good as it was staying at a fairly constant 73mph
dunno what hill it is but i'll see if i can drag it out of autoroute or whatever
