Polo 6C MY17 GTI replacement battery

Post by marky9074 »

Having problems with low battery and warning messages to dash. Been trying to charge with my old trusty charger but seems to start and run OK, but still warnings to dash and infotainment off. Just wondered if anyone knew what battery is in it as OEM and what to replace it with. I think a Bosch S5A08 will be sufficient. I know this needs to be coded, but I have OBDeleven so assume it can be done in that? Any help much appreciated.

Edited: Meant to say I have Helix sub on top, so I don't really want to extract it all just to find out what battery it is - hence the question. Cheers!

There was a dodgy batch of Moll batteries that went into the 6c at some point. My oem battery was a banner that i replaced with a bosch S5A08. You just need to code to say it's a AGM rather than EFB and the extra capacity.

Thanks guys, great help. I might go for a YBX9096 YUASA AGM instead? Seems about the same price, though Bosch has longer warranty......

Turns out it was a Moll battery after all... If it helps anyone else, I got a Yuasa YBX9096 for around £125 delivered, then coded the change to AGM battery type using ODBeleven. All good now.

How did you and others recode for AGM, did you change battery technology from EFB to Fleece, or did you use one of the AGM options?

It has been said on other forums, that it is the Fleece option that should be selected when changing to a normal AGM battery.

Hmm good point, I hadn't fully read all the posts and went for 'Binary - AGM' (from EFB) as it seemed the most logical choice. Guess I'll change it to fleece then based on the evidence. Interesting there seems to be no hard info on what 'Binary - AGM' is for.....
